Haiti Launches National Voter Registration Amid Persistent Gang Violence
Haitian authorities officially commenced a nationwide voter registration drive on Thursday, a critical step toward holding the country's first general elections since 2021. The process began in Port-au-Prince and several provinces despite armed gangs still controlling significant portions of the capital. The transitional government, supported by international security forces, aims to restore democratic order even as over 6 million people remain in need of humanitarian assistance due to ongoing instability and gang occupation.
