Israeli Airstrike Destroys Al-Muttaqin Mosque and Displaces Hundreds in Gaza City
Israeli fighter jets destroyed the Al-Muttaqin Mosque in the Zeitoun district of Gaza City during a series of airstrikes on July 28, 2026. The strike also leveled nearby tents housing displaced families, forcing hundreds to flee further south into central Gaza. While the IDF stated the site was used by militants for operations, local health officials reported that the attack destroyed critical civilian infrastructure and caused significant damage to the neighboring YMCA building.
