Deadly Clashes Prompt Civilian Flight in Beni Territory

Between July 13 and July 19, 2026, intense fighting erupted between Congolese security forces and armed groups, including the M23, in the Beni territory of North Kivu. According to UN News, the violence killed at least 30 people, forced six humanitarian organizations to suspend operations, and triggered the displacement of an estimated 12,000 civilians who fled the territory to avoid the worsening crossfire.
