Clashes Displace Thousands in Artibonite Department
In late June 2026, fierce clashes between armed gangs in Haiti's Artibonite department caused a massive wave of civilian flight. According to the International Organization for Migration, more than 2,600 people were newly displaced by the violence. Fides News Agency reported that over three-quarters of those fleeing the gang warfare sought immediate refuge in the nearby municipality of Marchand Dessalines, exacerbating the country's humanitarian crisis.
