Pakistan and India Exchange Prisoner Lists Amid Renewed Diplomatic Contacts
On July 2, 2026, Pakistan and India exchanged comprehensive lists of prisoners currently in each other's custody through diplomatic channels in Islamabad and New Delhi. This biannual exchange, a routine requirement under a 2008 agreement, coincides with renewed calls for higher-level dialogue to resolve longstanding territorial and security disputes. While the move is procedural, analysts suggest it maintains a vital communication link between the nuclear-armed neighbors during a period of relative calm following previous regional military confrontations.
