Myanmar Junta Launches Heavy Airstrikes on Maungdaw Border Area
Myanmar military junta forces launched heavy airstrikes using jet fighters and Y-12 aircraft on Maungdaw and surrounding areas late on July 1 and early July 2, 2026. Over 10 high-payload bombs targeted the town's main entrance and nearby Border Guard Police bases. The assault has triggered a significant exodus of urban residents toward rural villages, complicating humanitarian efforts for civilians trapped by the ongoing siege of Sittwe and collapsing local food prices.
