Somaliland Opens Diplomatic Mission in Tel Aviv Amid Growing Security Partnership
The breakaway territory of Somaliland formally opened a diplomatic mission in Tel Aviv following Israel's recent recognition of its independence. On June 25, 2026, reports emerged that Somaliland and Israel are discussing the establishment of an Israeli military base to project power in the Red Sea. The move has drawn sharp warnings from IGAD and the Somali Federal Government, while Houthi forces in Yemen have threatened to target the new presence.
