Bolivia Declares State of Emergency Amid Nationwide Protests
Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz declared a 90-day state of emergency, authorizing the military to clear deeply entrenched road blockades that have caused severe food and fuel shortages. The blockades, led by rural workers and supporters of former President Evo Morales, have crippled the economy over the past 50 days in protest of government austerity measures.
