Haiti Displacement Reaches 1.5 Million Amid Gang Violence
The UN migration agency, IOM, reported on June 5, 2026, that internal displacement in Haiti has reached a record 1.5 million people due to escalating gang violence. Recent fighting in Port-au-Prince's Cité Soleil neighborhood forced over 18,000 people to flee in late May and early June, while another 5,000 were displaced in the South-East Department. Humanitarian officials warn that insecurity is spreading to areas once considered safe, leaving vulnerable populations with no refuge.
