Slight Progress Reported in US-Iran Ceasefire Negotiations in Islamabad
Diplomatic sources from Pakistan and Iran reported slight progress in ceasefire negotiations on May 23, 2026. The talks, mediated by Pakistan, are focused on establishing a 60-day extension to the current cessation of hostilities and a framework for future nuclear discussions. While both sides have reportedly narrowed gaps on a memorandum of understanding, significant disagreements remain regarding Iran's stockpiles of highly enriched uranium and U.S. freedom of navigation requirements through the Strait of Hormuz.
