First Gaza Flotilla Activists Arrive in Turkey Following Israeli Deportation and Abuse Allegations
On May 22, 2026, the first group of 422 activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla arrived in Istanbul after being deported by Israel following the interception of their 50-vessel aid convoy. Intercepted in international waters, the activists reported widespread abuse, including beatings and sexual assault, during their detention in Israeli-controlled facilities. The Israeli Prison Service denied these allegations, which have sparked international condemnation and calls for sanctions against high-ranking Israeli officials involved in the operation.
