Taiwan Detects 7 Chinese Military Aircraft and 8 Naval Vessels Near Island
Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense reported on May 21, 2026, that it tracked seven Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft and eight naval vessels operating around the island between Wednesday and Thursday morning. Six of the aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait median line, entering the northern and southwestern air defense identification zones. Taiwan responded by deploying its own aircraft, naval ships, and coastal missile systems. These maneuvers coincide with US diplomatic signals regarding a potential call with President Lai Ching-te.
