Somaliland Announces Jerusalem Embassy Opening After Israeli Recognition
Somaliland's ambassador to Israel, Mohamed Hagi, announced on May 20 that the breakaway territory will open its first embassy in Jerusalem. The move follows Israel's official recognition of Somaliland's independence. This diplomatic realignment signals deepening security cooperation in the Horn of Africa, as Somaliland's strategic location along the Gulf of Aden provides a critical counterweight to Houthi-linked threats in the Red Sea and the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait. Israel plans to reciprocate with a mission in Hargeisa.
