The Israel Defense Forces confirmed on May 16, 2026, the death of Izz al-Din al-Haddad, the commander of Hamas' military wing and one of the last surviving architects of the October 7, 2023 attacks. Haddad was killed in a precision airstrike in Gaza City on May 15, with his family confirming the death on Saturday.
