Al-Shabaab Suicide Attack at Mogadishu Checkpoint
An al-Shabaab suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at a security checkpoint near the entrance to Mogadishu's Aden Adde International Airport on May 11, 2026. The blast killed security personnel and civilians waiting in line for inspections. Following the explosion, armed militants engaged in a brief skirmish with Somali National Army forces before being neutralized. The attack underscores the group's continued capability to strike high-security government installations and transport hubs within the capital city despite ongoing operations.
