Armed gang attacks in Artibonite displace over 4,400
Starting May 2, 2026, heavily armed gangs launched coordinated attacks on the localities of Grand Bérard, Beau Fort, Lacouture, and Pitralle in Haiti's Artibonite department. According to the IOM Displacement Tracking Matrix, the intense violence and insecurity forced 4,419 individuals to flee their homes. The vast majority of these newly displaced persons sought refuge with host families in the nearby municipality of Dessalines.
