Somali Forces Kill 50 Al-Shabaab Militants in Failed Base Assault
The Somali National Army (SNA) repelled a large-scale Al-Shabaab attack on a military base along the border of the Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions on May 3, 2026. Government officials confirmed that 50 militants were killed during the heavy exchange of fire. The attack is part of an ongoing Al-Shabaab offensive, dubbed 'Operation Ramadan,' aimed at re-encircling Mogadishu and reclaiming territory lost to African Union and government forces over the previous year.
