Israeli Navy Intercepts Global Sumud Flotilla Near Crete
The Israeli Navy intercepted the 'Global Sumud Flotilla' in international waters near the Greek island of Crete on April 29-30. The activist flotilla, which sailed from Barcelona on April 12, was carrying humanitarian aid bound for Gaza. Organizers reported that military speedboats used lasers and semi-automatic weapons during the interception. Twelve Australian humanitarian workers were among those detained during the operation, which Israel defended as necessary to maintain its naval blockade.
