Myanmar's military-backed president, Min Aung Hlaing, issued emergency ordinances on April 24, 2026, imposing military control over 60 townships. The lockdowns cover regions in Kachin, Shan, and Rakhine states, as well as the Mandalay and Magway regions. The official notification cited the need to combat armed terrorism and restore the rule of law. Executive and judicial authority in these areas has been transferred to the military chief for a period of 90 days.
