Escalating attacks by the "Gran Grif" gang in Haiti's Artibonite department, which began in late March, have caused a new wave of significant displacement. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), as of April 17, 2026, the violence had displaced 13,573 people from their homes. The attacks, which included killings and the burning of houses, have placed immense pressure on host families and created urgent humanitarian needs in the communes of Dessalines and Petite-Rivière.
