Gang Offensives in Port-au-Prince Disrupt Strategic Maritime Routes
Between March 28 and April 5, 2026, gang coalitions in Port-au-Prince launched coordinated attacks to seize control of critical maritime corridors and overland supply routes. UN News reported that the violence displaced 7,200 new civilians from the Delmas and Cité Soleil neighborhoods. Displaced families are seeking shelter in public buildings and makeshift camps, as gangs continue to use kidnapping and sexual violence to maintain dominance. The insecurity has further choked humanitarian access to the capital’s most vulnerable populations.
