On March 29, 2026, the Gran Grif gang conducted a large-scale assault on the Jean-Denis area of the Artibonite region. The attack involved setting fire to approximately 50 homes and resulted in at least 70 civilian fatalities. According to the human rights group Défenseurs Plus and the UN, the violence forced 6,000 residents to flee toward safer rural zones, marking one of the deadliest escalations in the central agricultural belt this year.
