North Korean leader Kim Jong-un supervised a ground test of a high-powered, solid-fuel missile engine on April 4, 2026. According to the KCNA, the engine utilizes advanced carbon-fiber composite materials and is intended for the Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile. Kim described the test as a very important step in putting the country's strategic military capabilities at the highest level. The test coincided with the Epic Fury 26 joint military exercises by US and South Korean forces.
