First Chadian Troops of UN-Backed Force Arrive in Haiti
An advance team of Chadian security personnel arrived in Port-au-Prince on April 2, 2026, as the first deployment of the United Nations-backed Gang Suppression Force (GSF). Accompanied by Special Representative Jack Christofides, the force is tasked with helping the Haitian National Police reclaim territory from gangs that control an estimated 90% of the capital. The GSF replaces the underfunded Kenyan-led mission and holds a broader mandate to arrest suspected criminal elements.
