Al-Shabaab Offensive in Galmudug Displaces 10,000
On March 29, 2026, Al-Shabaab militants seized several rural outposts in the Galmudug State after a fierce battle with Somali National Army forces. Local elders and humanitarian sources confirmed that 10,000 civilians fled the conflict zone towards the town of Adado. The displacement was driven by fear of forced recruitment and retaliatory violence. Many of those fleeing are pastoralist families who have lost access to grazing lands and water points.
